Porcelain vases, each carved by hand with love, embracing Clara’s love of colour and texture.
‘Rock’ Carved Porcelain Vase
Slip cast, carved porcelain vase, with a celadon type glaze.
This hand carved porcelain vase with a celadon type glaze is made by myself in my studio in Kent. This particular vase is carved to almost resemble a rock face, each facet allowing the glaze to pool and be slightly thicker at the base of each curved carving. The vase feels very cool and tactile in your hand. It has a celadon type glaze, fired in an electric kiln. It is a very pale green, but please bear in mind, each screen shows colour ever so slightly differently.
These vases work well singly, on a mantelpiece or shelf, holding a single rose, or some freesia stems. They also work well together as a collection, in multiples.
Each piece is slip cast using liquid clay in a mould. There is a short window of time where the porcelain is pliable enough to carve, without distorting the shape of the vase too much. No two pieces are the same, similar, but not identical. Occasionally, the vase may not be quite straight or quite round. This is because porcelain has a “memory” and can react to the heat in the kiln and the carving.
Dimensions: 14cm high, 3.5cm diameter.

Clara has always loved to make and she discovered clay on a foundation course, and went on to study ceramics at university. Her vases are designed to compliment the flowers placed in them. Each is slip cast using liquid clay in a mould, and then when the clay is at just the right consistency, Clara carves each one by hand, using a multitude of tools she has collected, each tool leaving its own individual mark. Clara mixes her own glazes and works within quite a small colour palette, mainly greens with a few blues.
