Charlotte Storrs Stoneware

Charlotte Storrs is a Dutch potter working from her garden studio in Oxfordshire. As you can see from this picture of her beautiful garden, Charlotte and her husband are keen (and very hardworking!) gardeners and Charlotte’s love of gardening is reflected in the creation of her charming ‘Veg Buckets’; perfect for collecting veg from the plot, or simply storing it in the kitchen. Charlotte specialises in making functional stoneware; pots, plates and bowls which can be used on a daily basis. All of her work is wheel thrown and made to order.

Charlotte likes to work with ‘a lovely, groggy, rustic clay’, which fires to 1250 degrees. She has made bespoke ceramic patterned rollers to decorate the leather-hard clay and uses a bespoke white glaze, made specially for her in Ireland, for a clean and simple aesthetic. It also does a fantastic job of making food look beautiful and inviting and we think Charlotte’s pieces are the perfect tableware for relaxed entertaining, giving a classic yet rustic feel to any dinner or lunch party.

Since visiting Japan and seeing the work of some the Japanense potters she visited using akebia vine, Charlotte likes to use it to add beautifully made handles to her pieces. The akebia vine contrasts well with the smooth white ceramic and adds an exciting extra dimension to her work, enhancing the feeling of quality and craftsmanship that is present in each piece.
